Jun 9: Protect Drag Story Time

Colorful graphic with rainbows and a drag queen with event information as described in blog post

A local right-wing organization is planning to protest our beloved Drag Story Time at Edgewater Library this Monday, June 9. This group has been showing at libraries all over Chicago, and now they are coming to the 48th ward. We, of course, will be there to welcome our neighbors attending the event.

The 48th Ward Dems is proud to partner with Trans Up Front IL on this event, as well as a virtual training tomorrow night. Read on for details...

Sunday, June 8: Virtual De-escalation Training

Ahead of Monday's event, Trans Up Front is hosting a virtual training to equip community members, organizers, and allies with tools to strategically and safely respond to anti-LGBTQ protests, particularly those targeting events like Drag Queen Story Time.

When: Sunday, June 8 (TOMORROW!) from 4-5pm
Where: Virtual livestream
RSVP: here

Participants will learn de-escalation techniques for community members and best practices for ensuring safe and welcoming access for LGBTQ families, performers, and children. This is not a training to become a safety marshall, but to ensure as a community we are doing what's best for youth based events. Together, we’ll center joy, protection, and solidarity in the face of hate.
