Chicago, IL – Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, alderwoman of Chicago’s 48th ward; which includes Andersonville, Edgewater, and Uptown; has announced her intent to run for 48th ward Democratic committeewoman in the upcoming March 19, 2024 election.

Manaa-Hoppenworth has been endorsed by several prominent Democratic party leaders, including Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, as well as State Senator Ram Villivalam, and State Representatives Theresa Mah, Hoan Huynh, and Kevin Olickal, among others.

From Manaa-Hoppenworth: “The federal election in 2016 was a wake up call for me to step off of the sidelines. Community organizing with Women’s March and with Indivisible empowered me to move from anger to action. I am especially proud of my work with ILVOTE, a state-wide organization that I founded with the mission of helping the electorate stay informed and engaged in every election. As 48th ward committeewoman, I look forward to continuing the work of civic engagement to activate and mobilize for every election and to support Dems up and down the ballot.”

The Friends of Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth campaign is hosting a fundraiser birthday party on Thursday, Sept 28 to help support the ongoing fight for a more transparent, accountable, and effective government at every level. The event will be held at the former site of Francesca’s (1057 W Bryn Mawr) in the Historic Bryn Mawr District of Edgewater.
