Celebrating Two Years in Office
It has been two years since the day that I had the honor of being sworn in as Alderwoman of the 48th ward in the great city of Chicago. I am immensely proud of the work that my office has achieved during that time.
Please read all about our many accomplishments on the 48th ward blog, including:
Completing 31,403 city service requests, a 24% increase from the two previous years.
Developed and implemented the Safe48 plan; violent crime is down 23% and robberies are down 35% from this time last year.
Passing Green Social Housing along with 200+ other ordinances, resolutions, and orders including Cut the Red Tape, One Fair Wage, ADU Expansion, and Chi v. Hate.
Introducing Participatory Budgeting to the 48th ward. Neighbors decided how to spend $2 million in their own tax-payer dollars.
Passing a balanced city budget without raising property taxes and while expanding Treatment not Trauma and reestablishing the Department of the Environment.
Planning over 150 affordable housing units.
Hosting over 110 community events, meetings, and resource fairs.
Housing 70 neighbors
When I review this incredible list and compare them to the vision we laid out for our ward during my campaign, I see that we are doing the work that we committed to do at that time.
Thank you for your support every step of the way as I have worked so hard to serve you, my neighbors here in the 48th ward. As I reflect on these past two years, I look forward to serving many more as your alderwoman.
In community and service,
Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth
48th Ward Alderwoman
